What are the copyright laws that Songpop has to follow?
Since there are no actual songpop reps on this board, there is never an answer as to why artist playlists such as The Beatles and Madonna are no longer available. Apparently, it's some kind of copyright issue, but what are the rules? Every playlist is of copywritten work, so why is it only a problem for certain artists? Is it because these artists put in a complaint/cease and desist order to songpop? Is there some other issue? Anybody know?

Don't believe there are any set rules as it depends on how artist has their work copywritten which could change per their country. Generally someone owns the rights to the music and it's often not the actual artist. Agreement must be reached with owner to use their media and that may also include them having right to withdraw consent whenever they like. Also the owner may sell rights to the media to another party which can void existing agreements and new owners decline permission to keep using it. I believe something like that happened with Beatles music. Anyway its complex issue dealt with by lawyers so it is what it is and we have little say.
