What happens after the 8 star badge?

In 80's I not only have the 8 star badge but I have also filled in every other badge 1-7 after that, there is no 9 star badge but it is prompting me to pay a lot of coins to upgrade. I am up to the 6 star badge but need to win more coins before I can try to go any further, I've already spent 8k in coins to get to this point. Is it just stealing my coins at this point if I can't advance to a 9 star badge? Am I the first person who has ever advanced this far in a genre?
