Can someone tell me what exactly badges do? Is it just like bragging rights or do they actually do something?

  I want to know exact same thing.... Been playing for long time but have never understood point in level up any badge ? I've done so but if it's just to show an extra star but comes nothing else I'm not going to use my coins to do that anymore;?!?
