Playlist mastery as a VIP

As a VIP, I can choose any playlist without buying it. Will I still earn a badge if I master a playlist as a VIP even if I do not own it or do I need to buy the playlist to get the badge if I master it even though I am VIP?

  I believe you have to purchase any playlist you want to master regardless of VIP.  Playlists that you don't own, will not show up on your profile, which is where you would see all the playlists you own.  If you do not own it and you close out all the stars, you will just see it as completed when someone sends it to you to play.  We do not see the word "Mastered" when receiving a playlist from another player, we can only see that from our profiles.

  You can master any category without owning it and earn a badge as well.
